Vince Gilligan did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would become a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.” With the first season of the acclaimed series reaching its finale—and the next chapter already in development—the writers' room recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus. About the Incredible Viewer Reception Anyone might to get distracted by the constant speculation and audience predictions about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to avoid both. “It feels like constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.” Despite trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show. “It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by what people are saying.” “We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in. The Central Mystery: Does the creator Know the Conclusion of Pluribus? So if Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… in a way. “There are some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.” Alternatively, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on. “I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.” Of course, why mess with the classics? “I want Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes. Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
